To add to this,
I have used a number of ^04 Majolica glazes amd have, dipped, poured
and unsuccessfully sprayed.
Rosie Wynkoop gave a workshop for my students when I taught in
Montana. She washes
the earthernware with a diluted vinegar solution before glazing.. I
also fire the bisque to ^04 to ^02. Also added to the glaze mixture
is epson salts to help keep the heavy fritted glaze in solution. 1/4
cup per 10,000 grams batch. Liquid starch has been suggested to add to
the glaze as well to harden the surface for overglazing. Hair spray
after the glaze application OR sraying diluted liquid starch also
hardens the surface.
After the glaze has dried on the pot, any pinholes that have appeared
are sanded or rubbed smooth with a finger.
This seems to eliminate pinholes. This is done PRIOR to spraying to
harden the surface.
