saggar reduction firing in an electric kiln

Hello:

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience

trying to do a sort of saggar reduction firing in an electric

cone 10 kiln?

I have a new Skutt KM-1027-3 cone 10 electric on

order. I'd love to build a hybrid fast fire gas/wood

kiln but that's not in the cards right now where we

live in the Dallas Texas area.

I was thinking that I might try putting some type of

reduction material in a tightly closed saggar with a

glazed pot and fire it to cone 10. As the material

burns it would eliminate oxygen within the saggar

and I'd guess it would remain absent during the

whole firing.

I know that most gas or wood reduction firings are not

kept in reduction during the full firing. If you were able to

create a reduction environment in a tightly closed saggar

in an electric firing there would be no way that I know

of to put it in reduction at a specific part of the firing,

but it seems that you could have reduction of a sort

using this method.

I'd love to hear anyone's experience with this sort of

a pseudo reduction firing method in an electric kiln.

Perhaps I'm goofy and this won't work, but I'd love

to hear anyone's experience on this subject.

Regards,

Brian Dean
