what not to miss:wa or ca coast road trip

I have not been on that exact road trip since I was 6 years old in 1959.
I'll tell you two things I remember with delight:
Hearst Castle and Highway 1

My son just moved to Seattle and I'm on the Gulf Coast of Texas. I plan
to road trip it out to him, and go to every place I went to when I was
six (except Disneyland -- I'm no longer theme park oriented).
San Diego Zoo
Crookedest street in the World
Sequoia National Forest
Yosemite
Hearst Castle
Highway 1

I remember all of those experiences, and dozens more whose locations and
names are buried, but whose visual images remain.

Now that I am a potter, I would add to the list of adventures trash
bags, lidded plastic containers, and a garden trowel for digging up clay
samples along the way!

Have fun!

Are they still open to the public? I thought you had to pay for some expen=
sive touchy-feely conference to use them these days. We used to sneak in a=
t daybreak and indulge.....phew......can still smell the sulphur.......real=
ly nice views.

Brings to mind the Tassahara trail that goes back into the hills from a par=
king lot just below the state park at Big Sur. There are hot springs back =
there about 10 miles in, right on the trail. The time I went in was a very=
long time ago but there was a bath tub built out of rock so you could just=
have the most wonderful bath there in the woods. If you have good weather=
that would be an amazing break from riding in the car.

I noticed several people have included the San Diego Zoo in their list. Whi=
le the SD zoo is great, I prefer the Wild Animal Park. It's part of the San=
Diego Zoo, but near Escondido. It started as the breeding center for the z=
oo. It encompasses thousands of acres, so the animals have much more room t=
o roam. It houses both rare animals and plants. It includes areas like the=
African savannah where animals live together.

Hi - As a potter you need to visit Harmony CA on Rt 1 - just south of Cam=
=3D
bria=3D20
near the Hearst Castle. The town has a population of 24 people - and one=
=3D
of=3D20
the best collections of pottery for sale anywhere! There is also wine tas=
=3D
ting=3D20
down the street. Speaking of wine, we spent some time around the Russian=3D=

River this summer and loved all the wineries we visited. The best news, =
=3D
they=3D20
did not charge for tastings as all of Napa seems to do now. And a great =

place=3D20
for foodies too.

If you're going to do this big trip you should do the whole thing. Drive
around the north end of the olympic penninsula (stop at hurricane ridge if
you can) and go out to the end of the world-

If this doesn't link search for cape flattery. this leads to the cape trail=
=3D
.
its on the Makah reservation and not developed as it would be in a nat'l
park- you could actually fall off the end of the world here.
