Hi Kathi,

That's because boxes are sold by inside dimensions--always have been
to my knowledge. UPS cares about outside dimensions.

Regards.

After 84 length, width, girth inches, UPS now charges EVERYTHING by
dimensional weight, that is, they have a chart that says xyx dimensions
weigh so many lbs. If your package weight is under that average, you get
charged the weight their chart says. If your package is over that weight,
you get charged by poundage. Plus a fee for trying to 'cheat' them. The
box goes through a laser scan that measures the box. If it bulges a bit or
is cut off size, you'll get nicked for the extra.
Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimensional_weight .
