In a thread over on facebook, we were talking about having an open mind and=
=3D
how that contributes to being a better person. =3DA0As I was thinking abou=
t =3D
it as it applies to artists, this came to mind.
artists with open minds tend to be flakes. one aspect of being an artist t=
=3D
hat is consistent is a cohesive vision of the world and the art they produc=
=3D
e. so artists are more likely to judge the work they encounter with crap/c=
=3D
ool evaluations that over their lifetimes lead them to a coherent view of t=
=3D
he world that is very single minded. =3D0A=3D0AThe greatest artists have al=
ways=3D
wound up this way. it is an editing process of the universe to winnow it =
=3D
down to something worth doing/looking at/ producing. anything less is a pe=
=3D
rson that is overly influenced and who is not producing from the synthetic =
=3D
reasoning place in our brains.=3D0A=3D0AI know some types who would love to=
be =3D
artists, but they have no capacity for synthetic reasoning. and they are t=
=3D
oo open minded, no judgement/evaluation/editing skills.=3D0A=3D0Athis is wh=
y so=3D
many artists are "opinionated". It is a requirement of the job.
some people cannot make art. they are limited by their inability to focus.=
=3D
too much new information, all of it evaluated with an open mind and accep=
=3D
tance of everything as being equally relevant and worthy.
not everything is relevant and worthy.
some of it is crap. some of it is cool. deciding that is a privelege of a=
=3D
n artist. it is the consumer that is falling down on the job in the art wo=
=3D
rld. they should demand better quality product. then they would get it in=
=3D
stead of overturned garbage cans and elaborate piles of poo.
