help identifying glaze

Hey ClayFolk...
I'm hoping someone can help me ID a glaze.
From the book "500 Cups", page 87, Burneta Clayton's lovely cup and =3D
saucer.
Can't stop looking at that cup!
Anyone have any ideas on the glaze?
Does anyone know if Burneta has a website?
Thanks!

Cathi,

My guess is a nuka glaze over a dark stoneware in reduction,

Nuka (rice hull ash glazes) can look like this with the correct
application on the right clay body. A lot depends on the clay body
or slips under the glaze. I would try a thin application on an iron
body.

Here is Phil Roger's synthetic nuka:

*Phil Roger's Synthetic Nuka

Potspar 35.6
Whiting 21.8
Talc 2
Bone Ash 2
Ball Clay 5.9
Flint 29.7
ferro3134 3 (I have subbed wood ash) *

check this out. Last time I posted, there was great interest in Rice
Hull Ash (RHA)

This Nuka may stir up some interest. Was posted on Claycraft about a year=

This is an example of Roger's synthetic Nuka on a white clay and over
tenmoku for a "waterfall" effect.

I know it's cone 10 1/2 reduction (where do they get that 1/2 cone?)
but I can get that effect with an 04 mailolica glaze over a black
glaze on a red body.

I know that's not helpful to you. I just wanted to be a smart ass. ;-)

Cathi
Small cobalt amounts plus magnesia give lavender/lilac.
Try a magnesia matt glaze, add for a start
1/4% cobalt carbonate/silicate, test, increase to taste.
Dip pot in your fave temmoku (3 count),
dip in matt (3 count). Wax or gum deco on
the temmoku show up well.

Plate in March, magnesia matt +2% cobalt silicate
potash feldspar 28.4
nepheline syenite 8.2
talc 5.1
silica 37.2
limestone 16.2
kaolin 0.6
any high boron frit 4.3
Odd figures 'coz it's a Cone 10 & a Cone 11 blend.
