Hello clayart,
We have an older Pacifica wheel at our art league. No model number or
serial number.
It runs, but makes a thud..thud..thud sound that you can feel while
throwing.
It hasn't been used for ten years at least.
It is orange and has 9 in. bat pins if that helps to identify it's age.
After checking the archives, I'm assuming it needs a new belt.
Belt measures 50 inches. 550J printed on belt.
I called Laguna and have been told the belts come in sets of four.
I only see one belt, why do we need four of them?
How often will I need to replace it?
Am I correct in assuming it needs a new belt? It is very frayed.
Any insight will be gratefully accepted.
I'm winging it here. ( as if you couldn't tell )

Older Pacifica wheels used one belt, newer ones use several
small belts.
So, whoever you talked to at Laguna was assuming that you
had a newer wheel which needs a set of four small belts.
I'm not sure, but I think that all the orange wheels are so old that
they were manufactured before Laguna bought the Pacifica company.
So, Laguna may not even be aware that there are Pacifica wheels
that do, indeed, use one wide belt.
Since you have the number of the belt, I suggest you call around
locally and ask about it - auto supply shops, industrial bearing
supply shops, etc.
As for how often the belt needs to be replaced, I have a circa
1980 Pacifica that still has the original belt. If yours is very frayed
of course it needs to be replaced.
A new belt should fix the problem, but if it doesn't there could also
be a problem with the rubber ring that fits around the outside of
the large pulley. I don't know where you could find a new one
if it is bad. Hopefully the new belt will fix it.
