lead in pots

another old story.
i think, the story that lili just told us had and
ending like this:

a couple bought mexican roadside pots, came
home and put orange juice in the pitcher.
got sick.

the pots were not glazed, they were painted with
lead based barn paint. red.

the acid in the orange juice released the lead.
no one died, just got sick.

but, those stories race through the community and
all potters are hit.

i had a friend that died of lead poisoning in the late
50's. she mixed her lead based glazes in her coffee mug,
then rinsed it out, drank coffee.
now we say...`stupid`.
but, at the time...she did not even think about it.
