The story about that girl in GB losing most of her fingers is =3D
HORRENDOUS. So I trotted down to the hardware store and checked: and =3D
YES, on packages of plaster there is a clear warning about the dangers =3D
of its causing burns.

Snail's story about the doctor wrapping Mr Snail's arms and legs in =3D
plaster, and a nurse coming to save Mr Snail from terrible burns is =3D
alarming to the extreme.

Obviously MDs are NOT warned about plaster and its dangers.

ATTENTION:CLAY TIMES, CERAMICS MONTHLY, POTTERY MAKING ILLUSTRATED, =3D
VICKI HARDIN, AND WHATEVER MAGS GO TO ART TEACHERS: PUT A WARNING OUT =3D
THERE!

The great philosopher Ted Nugent, the Motor City Madman, used to have
a morning radio show in my old hometown. One of his oft repeated
aphorisms was "There is no such thing as an accident, just poor
planning." Sage words.

A friend of mine is an emergency room surgeon. He has shared with me
innumerable stories of people forcing large objects through small
holes, always with dire consequences, so apparently this lack of
foresight is not uncommon. My favorite was the gentleman who lost a
foreign object inside a body cavity, then came up with a brilliant
plan to retrieve it. He filled said cavity with concrete, with the
idea that once the concrete set around the object, he could simply
extract the concrete which would bring the now trapped object with it.
(No, it is not an urban myth; here is a link to the story:
http://www.well.com/~cynsa/cement.html) Another favorite has to do
with a gentleman's encounter with the drainage hole in a flowerpot
(Hint: The solution to the dilemma involved a fireman and the
jaws-of-life).

Take care.
