seeking an adjustable throwing gauge

I've always used a piece of 3/32" stainless welding rod, bent at 90=3DBA at=

end to fit through holes in the rims of the gallon bucket I use for throw=

water. It can be bent up or down or the bucket can be moved to line up wi=

the piece you want to duplicate.

2 C-clamps and two sticks.



the c-clamps don't dry out like the lump of clay.



And the two sticks can vary as you need them


or come in sets made by you to keep hanging by the wheel for



specific projects.

I recommend wooden rulers for the sticks, water durable and good for


measuring, too. Reversible for metric!





The perfect set would be made of those quick change scissor grip clamps.




Sometimes you just need to make the thing with stuff you already have.

If you elect to make a gauge using a stick as the height/diameter
indicator it often causes a problem with the ware when cutting off or
removing the bat. Substitute a brush having soft bristles for the
stick, contact of the pot with the bristles is less damaging.
