Too wide--I need a diameter of 1 1/4 inches, not the typical 4". If
nobody comes up with a source, I will try making it--thank you, Dennis!

Hello all,
I am hoping someone can help me with this. I have a VERY old Orton
kiln vent (at least 20 years). It has a "collection cup" under the
kiln floor that connects to the vent itself via a 1 1/4" flexible
aluminum hose. I need to replace this hose, and cannot find it
anywhere. Orton no longer carries it, hardware stores, plumbing
supplies and the auto supply places near me all don't have it. I
looked online and only found wholesalers (I only need 2' or 3' of it,
not 50!). I would welcome any ideas as to where I can find it.

Thank you! Lynn

Lynn, if you only need 3 feet, make it yourself. Take 3 feet of 1 1/4"
PVC tubing, wrap heavy duty foil cut into 2" strip around it and wrap
hi-temp foil tape around it in the opposite direction. Slide the thing
off the PVC and you'r done.
If this is not rigid enough, you can wrap some steel wire between the
foil and foil tape with a 1" or so step.
I have made my own water heater venting pipe this way when I ran out of
pre-made stuff, and it still is in service 4 years later.
Good luck!
Dennis

I've been looking for a reducing adaptor, as you suggest--nobody
around here makes them as small as I need. They seem to go no smaller
than 2".

Lynn...

McMaster-Carr sells exactly what you are looking for. Here is a link to th=

part: http://www.mcmaster.com/#aluminum-duct-hose/=3D45npse

The lightweight version is around $2 per foot, and the heavy duty is about
$3.50 per foot. Their minimum is only 5 feet. They are great to deal
with. I ordered all of the venting materials for my spray booth from them.
Placed the order one day, and a liftgate truck dropped off the crate the
next morning! Great prices too. They sell all sorts of oddball useful
stuff; a great source.

You may also be able to obtain it locally from an HVAC (heating,
ventilation, and air conditioning) supplier. It is sold as bathroom vent
fan ducting. Call around and tell them you are looking for "flexible
aluminum duct, 1 1/4" i.d.". Call the ones in the Yellow Pages who serve
heating contractors. A retail home center type store won't have it.

If a 350 degree F temperature limit will suffice, you can use silicone
heater hose. 1 1/4" I.D. runs about $8 per foot, and can be obtained
through performance auto suppliers such as this one:

I hope this helps. All the best.

James--

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I just ordered it, I'll probably get it tomorrow. I'll be able to fire
on Friday!
