Eduard B. explained the difference between "S" and "K" thermocouples, so =
=3D
I
won't. S and R are made of noble metals. K not. Any thermocouple can be=3D2=
0
aged and one way to extend the life, especially with K-types is to coat
them with ITC 213. very cheap--1/2 pt will last a long time. I use it on
the thermocouples in electric kilns as well as the cone sitter parts. =3D
Just=3D20
dip or brush.=3D20
as a follow up on another thread where some had problems with black =3D
specks
spitting after coating elements with ITC213. This can be controlled by =3D
spraying
the interior of the kiln with ITC100HT after installing the elements.=3D20
This coats everything. The 213 should=3D20
be applied thinly as Mel has described earlier. It is not a coating, as =3D
it=3D20
functions to produce an entirely
new metal interlace between it and the element metal when heated to red =3D
heat.=3D20
There is a molecular=3D20
interchange that forms a new metal so you end up with a sandwich of =3D
three
distinct metallic materials.=3D20
