in almost every case it comes from too thick an application.
as nils points out, it is a thin coat. almost a micro coating.

i put itc 213 in a blender with water and blend for maybe
15 minutes.
a long time.
thin. thin.
i bet one will use less than a quarter cup to do an entire set
of new coils.

i do `shake and bake...put them in a plastic bag, roll it around.
then hang to dry. drips off, then dries.

speaking of new studios...nils has built a marvelous new
studio at his home in oregon. deep in the woods. radiant floor
heating, a place for nils and his wife to `play` all day.
and, he does. his experiments, ideas and concepts have changed
the way many of us as potters do our work, and fire. he may call
it play, i call it `simple genius`. seeing and understanding how things
work, then moving it into a practical experience. nils looks a great deal
to engineering and industry to see how they fire, work clay and understand
the process. nils does not make bath tubs or toilets, he makes art.
with understanding and science. a rare combination.
