air release tile dies/molds

Since most of us that make tile can not afford a hydraulic studio press f=
=3D
or our=3D20
tile making, I am wondering if anyone has stayed with hand or bench press=
=3D
ing=3D20
into an air release die?=3D20
Once you finish the back side, turn the die over, prop two opposite sides=
=3D
on=3D20
wood blocks and then releasing the tile?
I am looking to speed up my field tile production and that seems like an=3D=
20=3D

acceptable solution as pressing the tile can happen fast but releasing it=
=3D
=3D20
without air release, slow. Forcing the tile maker to have many many shel=
=3D
ves=3D20
of molds that they might not need if using the air release.

I am looking for a level set before trying my hand at air release die mak=
=3D
ing. I=3D20
have the process from two places, both the do it yourself book and=3D20
RamProcess and I just want to make sure it=3D92s worth a try from folks tha=
=3D
t have=3D20
done it.
Obviously, making regular open face molds for field tile is a no brainer,=
=3D
so I just=3D20
want to make sure that its worth my time to go down the air release (actu=
=3D
ally=3D20
hydraulic I guess) road.
Any opinions?

Get hold of a copy of Harry Davis's "The Potter's
Alternative" & look at the ejection system used in a
fly press. If you can't get the book I'll copy the
appropriate section for downloading.

Just like to say thanks to the folks that replied! I now have the book i=

n=3D20
question and love it. Why didn't I have this book already? LOL
I am going to take a whack at the flywheel press design in the book as I =
=3D
have=3D20
not welded in a while and it sounds like a wonderful project for the shop=

on a=3D20
few winter's day. Thanks again Des, particularly...
