Thoughts on using ITC for new elements? I have a skutt KM 1027 automatic
and I am replacing the elements for the first time in less than 2 years.
What are the pros and cons of dipping them in ITC first and letting them dr=
y
prior to installation?

I fire cone 6 Oxidation and O4 Bisque with a slow cool for glazes which
maybe causing my elements to stress out and need replacing. Every 1 year
and 1/2 would be very expensive? Hummmmm Thanks for your thoughts.....

Why are you replacing your elements?
Is your kiln no longer able to keep up with the programmed setting?
How often are you firing?

If you do decide to change elements and coat with ITC then be sure to do th=
e
following:

Remove oils from elements used when they were formed.
Mel suggests scrubbing with bleach solution.
I have just laid them on a bare kiln shelf (no wash) and fired quickly up t=
o
red heat (about 1200F).
If you only have one kiln, do this before taking out the old elements.

ITC MUST BE APPLIED THIN!
Water down the ITC, put in blender, mix.
Use long container, drywall mud box works.
Put in mixed ITC, run element through.
Don't get on pigtails.
Shake off, let dry, install.
