signing - last time

Having posed and reposed to myself, "What to do about this signing
thing?," the solution was so obvious I, of course, kept just missing it.
I thought of "JL," first off naturally, but in case we both gain world
fame, I cannot in good conscience usurp London's Jennifer Lewis' right
to use our initials although Tony Clennell has given his strong approval
of such a tasteful mark. Thank you, Tony. Good idea, but too late. I
thought of "TC" (for "too classy"?) but, there ya' go, Tony already uses
that one. Ah ha, why didn't I think of it before? Because I'm an
unclassy dorkus, that's why. "Tony Clennell" it is. Perfect. Tony
doesn't use this signature. Why can't I? ()

Ready to throw and sign once more in the Mojave

Hi Joyce -

I enjoyed reading your message! There are so many of us famous JLs
around, it is becoming something of a problem, I just don't know how
buyers and collectors are going to manage with all the identification
problems they will encounter in years to come... frinstance, there's
me, you, and then a couple of others I can think of immediately, like
John Leach and Jennifer Lee ... I've heard of them, but willing to
bet they haven't heard of us. Oh well. There are probably others.
Do we just have very common initials, or is it better to think of
us as a rather exclusive club?;-)

When I started playing mud-pies I used my middle initial as well,
which I don't often in every day life, it's V (Valerie), but somehow
the end result looked like a slightly demented M. So I gave up on
that. Now the result looks like a slightly demented "pi" sign, but
it's ok.

Hans Coper's initials were the best - turned sideways, looked like a
potters wheel with a bowl on it. Not many people with that little
extra advantage. Or that talent (he's one of my heroes).

I hope you enjoyed your sale, by the way. I enjoyed my
day here, and have sold a few more subsequently, so the office is
still a bit cluttered, but not as much as before! Quite hard work,
but fun.
