Tried to send this a number of times, not sure if it ever gets through:
Just thought I'd put this out there.
I just tried "Kelley's Lowfire Shino", in both ^04 and^7 oxidation firing.
This recipe is from "10 Tried and True Raku Glaze recipes". The ^04 test
was quite uninteresting and very dry, virtually unusable. The ^7 seemed
to have quite abit of promise. It didn't even run at this much higher
temperature.
Any thoughts on this?
Here is the recipe:
Lithium carb.------26
Neph. sy.--------- 64
EPK ---------------10
---------------------------
light rutile--------6
Manganese carb. ----0.5
Thanks,
Eric

Eric...
I have that same glaze in my files (slightly different name) from a long
time ago, don't know where I got it. For the last couple of years I have
been careful to put the source of the recipe in my notes, but back then I
typically didn't. I made a test batch last spring. On my clay, a white
porcelainous stoneware (Rovin RO-01 "You Betcha"), it bubbled and pitted
badly at cone 04. It fired fine at cone 06. It was a moderately
interesting glaze, but nothing even remotely resembling a shino. It was a
satin matte (eggshell), displayed very interesting variegation and
streaking, even a bit of sparkle, but was an atrocious salmon color. Just
my experience. You may like atrocious salmon!
All the best.
