Amy, Amy, Amy! What shall we do with you? Mmmm?
=3D20
Layered glazes INTERACT. They mesh. So why did you not tell us that =3D
you use that black glaze UNDER another?
This brings me back to square one. Seems to me now that your attempted =3D
glaze is NOT anything like a glaze, but actually an underglaze. =3D20
I know next to zip about underglazes--I work with slips mostly, and use =3D
stains IN the slips--I hope someone who knows will pick up on this and =3D
give you better info/advice.
Meanwhile two thoughts. =3D20
WEARING your mask weigh out the colorants in the proportions you have =3D
been using. Add enough of your WHITE glaze to make them the right =3D
consistency. Now apply THAT mix and test under your white glaze and see =
=3D
what happens.
Also:
Vince published an underglaze recipe some time ago on CLAYART. =3D20
F4Soda Spar 20
Kaolin 10
Ball Clay 5
Frit 3124 10
Zirconium 5*
Stain 40
This is put into a mix of 10 Parts AntiFreeze (this is the SAFE =3D
Antifreeze, the kind used in water lines, boats, and recreational =3D
vehicles. Your autosupply store has it.)
This goes in with 10 parts water, and 5 parts CMC liquid. * Zirconium =3D
can be increased to 40 for light shades)
The CMC liquid is a mix of 30 gms CMC and 1 quart of HOT water. Mix =3D
ahead of time
as it should sit 2 days before use.
Were I doing this I would mix up some of that liquid add my colorants =3D
and test under that white glaze.
So you have two sets of tests ahead of you.
Now off to clean the house. And yes, we are being clobbered with snow. =
=3D
When you hear Tug Hill, think of us.
And please report the results.
Question: You live on a horsefarm? With 4 whole dogs? Gee!

Yes pottery and pony farm!
I own 10 acres=3D2C rent 30=3D2C own=3D2C raise and train 40 equine and 4 =
dogs.
The animals are my "models" for my sculpture and before the meltdown contri=
=3D
buted to my income..
It is easier for me to shoe a horse than test these glazes!
I can cut a F250 load of fire wood with my chain saw=3D2C easier than test=
=3D
these glazes.
I can fire up the JD450 track loader and move rocks or fix the pot holes i=
=3D
n our road easier.
I can brush hog pasture all day and do sculpture in the evening with out =
=3D
missing a beat.
I pot and sculpt =3D2C glaze=3D2C load fire my kiln all on my own several=
tim=3D
e a year and survive on the proceeds .
GOSH why is this glaze thing SOOO hard.
It is embarrassing to admit...
I look forward to and LOVE reading the posts EVERY day on CLAYART . I am=
=3D
trying to absorb the knowledge and implement .
Enough of my shortcomings.
Back to the dilemma .
Here is the glaze I used OVER the "black under glaze"
^10 white egg shell matt ("thick =3D2C feels like an egg")
Custer spar 7pounds 259.1 gms
Dolomite 2pounds 225.7gms
Whiting 112.8 gms
EPK 3 pounds 225.7
I will mix the colorants with the white and see if they would produce t=
=3D
he "special deerhound" glaze :
http://highhorsefarm.com/cpg/displayimage.php?album=3D3D70&pos=3D3D5
I will wash the the stain on under the white glaze=3D20
-different strengths of stain
-different thickness of white
I will make a chart of the experiments
I will fire by the end of next week so I will have results.
Do I have to do the antifreeze thing?
I live the "dream" .My farm is paid for=3D2C I have no debt and am totally=
s=3D
elf employed.
I work what ever 14 hours of the day I want!
Thanks for your support.
