James, it's summary time.

Vince has one extremely valid point -- if there
is no general agreement on the meaning of the
word "handmade" then there's no value to the
use of the word.

The range of replies to the question "what do
you mean by 'handmade'" shows that there is,
in fact, no general agreement on the meaning
of the word.

One may fairly conclude, then, that there's no value
to the use of the word. =3D20

And as for that unintentionally hilarious L.L.=3D20
message you were replying to, here also we can
apply the simple rules of language and logic=3D20
(speaking of which, are you familiar at all
with A. J. Ayers? His writing is tedious in
the extreme, but it's an interesting effort to
break out of the prison of Platonic-Berkeleyist-
Cartesian philosophical error. Kierkegaard=3D20
makes a better attack on the "cogito," but
I find Ayers, for all its unreadability, is
at least more forthcoming with potential escape
routes) there as follows --

- If it is true that "folks who are not confident=3D20
in what they do, are overly concerned with what=3D20
others do";

and=3D20

- Lee Love demonstrates an excessive concern with
what others do;

then

It is a probable hypothesis that Lee Love is not
confident in what he does; and

Per A.J. Ayers, no proposition, other than a
tautology can possibly be stronger than a
probable hypothesis.

and -

The proposition that Lee Love is not
confident in what he does would only be
reinforced by his responding to messages
to which he takes exception on ClayArt.

Ah, but that'd be cruel, wouldn't it?
