Forgive me if this is redundant information. I have not been
following the line on stamps but it hit me this morning that I offer
my students this technique.
Collect leaves, bugs, flowers, medallions, etc; anything you want to
make
a stamp of (of which you wish to make a stamp). Press that object in
moist clay and remove. Fill the
indention with silicone caulking (100% Silicone). Place a big gob
in the middle and work outward with your fingers. This prevents
bubbles from being captured in the stamp. If you add more silicane
add it on top of the first gob not next to it. If you add next to
the first gob you will trap air. Keep your fingers
wet with a solution of water and detergent (2 drops per quart of
water). When you get to the level of the moist clay add a piece of
open fabric and coat it well from both sides with silicone
sealant/caulk. Allow this to dry as long as it takes. Depending on
the thickness it may take as much as a week.
You will be able to make stamps this way which give details equal to
that of a fingerprint. I have been planning to send this into CM for
the past ten years. So Ruth; if you have your ears on, here it is.

with this stuff. My five minute drive to the office this morning
took 35.

Dear Lowell:
I'm not understanding these instructions. I get the first part of making the
impresssion and filling it with silicone caulking. What I don't understand it
the second part:
< open fabric and coat it well from both sides with silicone
sealant/caulk.>>
If I've already applied the silicone to the impressed design, what next step
is getting me to the level of the moist clay??? I think I'm definitely missing
something here. :-( I thought at first you meant to apply fabric over the
silicone that I've put in the impression, but that would not be touching wet
clay. Or are you putting the fabric in the impression before you apply
silicone???
I just don't understand this second step with the cloth and silicone.
I would love to understand this. So please show me where I'm not understanding
this process.
Thanks! :-)
