i just checked continental clay:
grolleg .79 a pound @ 50 lbs
epk .85 a pound. @50 lbs.
so,
i was totally wrong. the english, shipped to continental
clay...is cheaper than domestic epk.
and, i do think that nils is correct...i push `buying local`,
support your nearby vendors. i would never have david's black jack clay
shipped from texas, just for me. but, nils is right again, at some point w=
e
will be getting chinese clay/porcelain shipped to minnesota. a world marke=
t
is here to stay. (it will probably be cheaper than domestic porcelain.)
and tony, some of my other friends that work full time at throwing
do not re/cycle. they just don't have the time or energy.
kerry brooks has two employees, strong young men, but they
only re/cycle if they are not busy, and they are always busy.
i think tom wirt gives his dry clay to the local school, or at least he
was.

Maybe best to mix your grolleg than buy it mixed?

Over the past few years I have been a customer of Great Lakes Clay in =3D
Carpentersville, IL. Tim has always provided the best service and product, =
=3D
with the added benefit of passing on any shipping discounts he could.
The current rate per pallet of material shipped amounts to about 1/3 of =3D
the cost to drive there towing a trailer both ways. It's pretty close to =
=3D
150 miles each way from here and with losing a full day for the trip.
He also has helped me to find a clay mix that I really love to throw and =
=3D
is willing to mix it for me. I do have a Peter Pugger so I could mix clay =
=3D
myself but why. The time lost mixing clay, the back pain involved, the =3D
dust and all the rest is reason enough for me to turn to a pro.=3D20
If you are looking for a dark clay that throws like a dream, have Tim send =
=3D
you some to try. Silky smooth, throws thin and quick, fires very dark in =
=3D
med reduction or a nice deep toast in oxidation.=3D20
