Hi Paul.

I'm afraid I'm guilty of not scoring my handles either. I used to score,
score, score, slip, slip, slip, just like I was taught but was getting a
LOT of cracks. Then I recall someone in a video mentioning they don't
score. Or use slip. Tony? Was that you?

Anyways, I stopped. I compress the handle where I want to attach it to
the pot by tapping it fairly hard with my finger, then just put a dab of
water on the handle, a dab on the pot and smoosh them together. I wiggle
it around ever so slightly until it stops moving and compress the
outside edges really well with a wooden tool. I very rarely get cracks
anymore. And I've never had a handle fall off - at least, no one's
complained and they seem to keep coming back, so I assume they're fine.=3D2=

Handmade Porcelain Celebrating the Art of Fine Craft

Always depends on the state of dryness of the pieces and the nature of
your clay.

If you listen to your materials, instead of using rote
rules, you accommodate what the materials call for.

Yes I use cider vinegar with porcelain too and I score. What do you know
about magic water?

Hi Lou,

I use straight cider vinegar when I'm working with porcelain - not the only
way to do it I'm sure.
