One book with lots of plans for equipment is: THE POTTER'S ALTERNATIVE, by
Harry Davis, who started as British and part of the Leach tradition, then
moved on to New Zealand, Africa, South America. Very useful book, I refer to
it often for mechanical advise, and also geology.

There is another group of 4 books, all starting with: THE SELF-RELIANT POTTER:
One is REFRACTORIES AND KILNS; another is GLAZES, another is CLAY, and
another is FORMING. Originally they were written by James Danisch and Henrik
Norsker, but I think newer additions have been rewritten only by Norsker.
All these books come from experiences in Nepal, where they didn't even have
kilns before the Germans started a $4 million project to improve ceramics there.

I've been trying to find a copy of this out of print book for a
couple of months. I've left messages with some of the book
services that advertise that they can find books, with no luck.
If anyone knows where I can find a copy, or has a copy they
would like to sell, please e-mail me.
