HI all,
Long time no chat! I have a website with a shopping cart through Mal's
E-Com. Mal's collects Charge Card info through a secure server. I take th=
e
CC info and manually run it through my charge card swipe machine, using the
phone lines. But recently there has been discussion of PCI compliance in th=
e
user forums and Mal's has announced that they will no longer allow the
recording of the CCV(3 digit) code on buyers' cards since it is illegal to
"store" them. I am going to eat the increased % my CC Merchant Services Co
will charge, since a manual sale without the CCV is charged a higher rate.
Anyone dealing with this issue? I looked into switching to Paypal for
payments, since Mal's has that interface, but the cost is similar.

Hi Jennifer,

I faced the same problem a year ago and went with PayPal. The problem is =
=3D
that you still have to be PCI compliant for your merchant account and =3D
that means having an audit of some kind. If you get your credit card =3D
info over the internet--which you do from Mal's and I used to also--it =3D
was going to be very expensive and a royal pain. I remember something =3D
like $250/year. You have to have your system scanned for interlopers =3D
periodically or some such thing.=3D20

If you only get credit card info by mail or phone or swiping, it is a =3D
multi-page questionnaire to fill out and $25/year. So I decided =3D
Mal's/PayPal was the lesser of evils.

I still keep my merchant account because our wholesale book =3D
orders--particularly international ones--usually come in by phone/fax =3D
and they want to use credit cards to ease the currency exchange problem.

So, overall, I expect you are going to have to accept some higher level =3D
of charges--I couldn't find a way around it and Mal's/PayPal has worked =3D
flawlessly. I get the order transmitted from Mal's and PayPal tells me I =
=3D
have been paid.

Regards,

John, did you Merchant Services provider require this? I have heard nothing
from my company about this issue.

Hi Jennifer,

Yes, my merchant services provider required this, first with little =3D
notices on my monthly statement that got more and more persistent. They =3D
said VISA and MC were requiring this by sometime this year--don't =3D
remember the exact date.

So I suspect you will be hearing from them soon unless your provider has =
=3D
somehow managed to avoid it.

My merchant acct provider forced this issue last summer and put us
through a big process. Now we have this "Trustwave" decal on the homepage
that is the seal of approval. In order to get it I had to go to Paypal for=
my
web transactions.

Best,

Eleanora
