input wanted on new wheels

I am helping a friend buy 2 wheels. He and his girlfriend are hobby
potters, so the demand on the wheels will not be the same as a
professional who works 8 hours a day on the wheel. However I want to
make sure he gets decent quality wheels so they will last. I own a
Brent B which I like but am not in love with so I think he should shop
around. I see quite a range on prices out there for new wheels. He
doesn't need to buy the primo wheels but may be willing to spend $800 or
$900. If he can get something closer to $500 he would prefer that, I
did see a new model of Shimpo VL Light for around $550. Any opinions on
this wheel? Any other recommendations or opinions?

Thanks,
Ann B

I have one of the new Bailey wheels. It falls into the price range of
your friend and is very quiet and reliable. I love it because you
can sit closer to the work than on some other wheels. A college
ceramics studio in my area has 30 of them in use every day and they
seem to be holding up really well.
