Hi James,
I thought pore-ol'-Roy kinda slowed down after getting that Thumb-Sized Eye
Tooth through the noggin.
I could have told 'em, "Hey - Don't let any gals with 'Big Hair' sit in the
front row!"
But, oh well...
Otherwise...no idea what to do in Reno.
If that Elephant pee (
I imagine 'Gallagher' reflected pensively on that one,) was from a Cow in
oestrus, one could end up having Bull Elephants follow you around with that
'Mmmmm...?' look-of-eye.
Could be fun...but, good Jogging Shoes would be a must, I'd think...
Lake Tahoe is pretty...heck, the whole area is pretty, even if the Reno
itself may be dreary-grey-drizzle-dreary, overcast-grey, dreary, drizzle,
yucky in Winter now and then.
Have fun..!
If you get bored, head on down here and say "Hi!"
Phil

Hi, all...
I have to go to Reno, NV in June. I was wondering if anyone could recommen=

Hi James,
Well as Mimi wrote, there is her shop in Gold Hill, NV (Argenta Earth
& Fire Co.) to visit as well as Great Basin Pottery here in Doyle, CA,
about 35 miles north of Reno.
Forget about the casinos, they are SOOOO twentieth century now anyway.
Bunch of has-beens. Plus there are no tigers to maul anyone here
anyway. The big casinos ruined downtown Reno. It's not all friendly
and homey like it was in the early sixties, where I grew up as a
little alley urchin. The Nevada Museum of Art is usually worth
visiting, and you might like the very unique building itself.
I second the advice to visit the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation, a
truly wonderful spot, and a marvel of nature. It's a landscape that
sculptors and painters absolutely fall in love with. In June it would
might be warm enough for a swim. If you feel even more adventurous,
then you can continue on past Pyramid Lake and visit Planet X Pottery
and the Black Rock Desert, something I've done the last couple of
Augusts with Vince. It's about 100 miles out from Reno. In 1977-78 I
lived out at the X, and will always cherish the memories of my year in
the real desert.
Let me know if you want to come out to visit here, June is a great time.
Best wishes,
Paul Herman

James,
I used to live in Reno but it has been several years so I don't know the cu=

rrent clay situation. Check out Planet X Pottery. They can probably point=

you to some places to visit.

I do highly recommend a drive to Pyramid Lake. One of the most beautiful p=

laces on earth. It is about 30 mi N of Reno, a desert lake. The Truckee R=

Hi James - here are a few things to do in Reno that do not involve casinos
and gambling:
Nevada Museum of Art - downtown Reno on Liberty Street
National Automobile Museum - downtown on Lake Street
Stremmel Gallery - fine art on South Virginia Street just south of downtown
Lake Tahoe - 45 minutes from Reno
Pyramid Lake - amazing desert lake 45 minutes from Reno
Paul Herman's studio - Doyle, CA about an hour away - wood fired pottery
Historic Virginia City and the Comstock Lode - 25 minutes from Reno
and . . . if you get to Virginia City, come visit me in Gold Hill, my studi=
o
is 1 mile south of Virginia City

And if you go to Lake Tahoe as several have suggested, check out the=3D20
ceramics studio at Sierra Nevada College in Incline. Don't know how=3D20
long you will be there, but they have some great 2 day and 5 day=3D20
workshops. Techs there are great too and will probable let you poke=3D20
around. After that, happy hour at the Hyatt on the Lake. Bring hiking=3D20=
=3D
shoes for June.
