bisque firing etc

My clay body for cone 10 reduction has 3 types of Ball clay, A.P.Green
or Pine Lake fireclay ( yes I still have both of them), Goldart, Newman
red, A flux and grog. I bisque fire to cone 010 (about 1650 degrees) .
The firing is not fired fast so all the organic matter is burned off.
The clay body has never bloated in the 40 years I have been using it in
high fire. I start reduction at cone 010 and maintain reduction until
the end of the firing. The mat glazes are rich in color and benefit
from the reduction and slow cooling. I don't open then kiln for at
least 3 days. The reduction would read between .60and .65 on an oxygen
probe. At the end of my firings I oxidize for 30-60 minutes. I shut
off my firings when cone 10 is at 1 on a clock face. Because of slow
cooling cone 10 stops at 3 on a clock face when the kiln is cool. The
softness glazes and durability of the body are a result of this type of
firing.

This is what I do to achieve what I do. I am not trying to convince
anyone of this way of firing. =3D20
