Hay Crew,=3D0A=3D0A Well I survived! The Hobagama get fired from Thursday t=

8th. to Thursday the 25th. at 1:45PM. falling asleep with the damper closed=

only once. My knees don't hurt like when I was crawling around on the grou=

nd at the kiln Drew Krouse made on the Maltbee Farm near Kalamazoo in the m=

id '70's. That's the first time I hit ^10 with wood. I didn't start halluci=

nating like the first time I fired the Hobagama '87. As with all new kilns =
=3D
though this firing might not be vary successful with some pots cracking fro=
=3D
m heat shock from too fast a climb and eventually melting out of shape and =
=3D
the rest being under fired. The front of the chamber right at the throat ar=

ch got blasted and melted ^11 to a puddle and the cracked Wendt Porcelain D=

to cool them off quickly and now they got damp. I'm gonna see if I can nuke=

ther w=3D
ith written notes until Saturday about 7:30PM when my pyrometers were readi=
=3D
ng about 285=3DB0 in the Bourry box, 245=3DB0 in the front crown, 300 in th=
e ta=3D
il, and maybe 200=3DB0 in the stack. I used BBQ meat thermometers in the Bo=
ur=3D
ry box and stack for a while until they read about 400=3DB0. At one point I=
g=3D
ot the front to 1800=3DB0 and managed to get the front and back within 50=
=3DB0 =3D
at about 1600=3DB0 before closed the damper and I took the long nap. When I=
w=3D
oke up both pyrometers were even at 1250=3DB0 so I decided to try relightin=
g =3D
like Lee Love mentioned some old coot in Japan does ant fired back up to wh=
=3D
ere I got the front to 1499=3DB0 and the tail to 1500=3DB0. All I was tryin=
g to=3D
do at this point was get the tail hotter that the front with secondary sto=
=3D
king in the door and the small hole near the tail. I knew I wasn't going to=
=3D
get glaze melt but I found part of my old stoking pattern that worked. =3D=
0A=3D
=3D0A It's a good thing I made the Pignose adjustable separate from the mai=
n =3D
chamber because I need to make the mousehole to the Bourry box twice as hig=
=3D
h, at least 2.5", so I can get more air to the hobs coal pile. I still had =
=3D
a clogging problem. It worked better when I reamed it with a long stick but=
=3D
it was a tight fit. =3D0A=3D0A Along the way I increased the stack height =
2' w=3D
ith some soaps I had left over and covered more of the outer sides with red=
=3D
brick but it got too dangerous climbing on the mud buckets while firing so=
=3D
I left it until I can lag in some more brick using a taller ladder.=3D0A=
=3D0A =3D
That's about it, the bunches of video I took will need editing and I can ta=
=3D
ke out frames for pictures, I didn't shoot a lot of stills this time.=3D0A=
=3D0A=3D
Thanks for all the encouragement over these construction and loading years=
=3D
and stay in there eh!=3D0A=3D0AGary Navarre=3D0ANavarre Pottery=3D0ANavarr=
