The main reason I have for splitting your kiln halfway up is
ease of loading.
Sculptors can also benefit from this since they can take two
regular oval kilns and tophat them together to make it
possible to construct a large, life-size sculpture on the
bottom of the kiln and then roll the tops over to the bottom
and lower them onto it and fire.
Computer controls have made this possible.
