hi all--i am planning a little trip in late may/early june to see the
seagrove area and visit potters there. this will be a road trip with my
mother (also a potter) for her 80th birthday! can anyone here suggest a
central point for lodging--and possibly give me tips about really important
sights in the area that might be of special interest? we will probably have
three nights and two full days to spend, depending on how planning goes
closer to the time. also, since this is a big occasion for my mother i woul=
d
like to stay someplace really nice, so any specific suggestions there would
be great.

i have looked a little at the seagrove potters' website, so i do have some
information. i'm sure it will be hard to limit ourselves to two days from
the look of things! thanks in advance for any help you can offer,

Hi Drake -

Since you are doing a road trip from
Ohio, I am going to recommend a couple
stops rather than heading directly to Seagrove ...
not that there isn't enough to see there but
there are thriving pottery communities near
Asheville, Boone, Penland as well as the
Catawba Valley.

Luxury lodging for one night would
be in Asheville at the historic Grove Park Inn.
Even comes with a resident ghost!

You can drive from pottery to pottery all
the way down to Asheboro where you are
close to North Carolina Pottery Center.
It is a great reference center for all the
nearby potteries.

There are no luxury hotels nearby ...
just the usual chains. Holiday Inn Express
is usually good there.

If you want to try some great NC BBQ stop
in at Hops on Sunset Ave in Asheboro.

Also Google : North Carolina Pottery Road
