terracotta casting slip

Anyone have a recipe for a nice deep red terracotta casting body that will
fire to cone 01. I am testing with Laguna terracotta but it seems to have n=
o
range, only 06, from what I can tell. I want to be able to fire to 03 and
possibly higher for bisque, if it makes sense to.

Thanks,
Centa Theresa

Anyone have a recipe for deep red casting slip, non toxic, that will fire t=
o
02 or 01 (I'm wanting to glaze fire to 03 and have heard in some cases it
may be better for craze prevention to bisque higher than the glaze
fire)...can't seem to get a hold of anyone at Laguna to tell me what the
range is on their Terracotta, so it seems it is 06, period. I fired to 03
with lots of cracking. Willing to make my own now to get more vitreous. Yes=
,
I know I also need a glaze and slip to fit, but first things first, right?

Thanks,

Hi Centa,

I wouldn't be at all surprised if my commercial ^04 "red robin" casting sli=
p
from Miller (now Laguna) would fire to ^02 without breaking a sweat.

The # I have for Jon Pacini at Laguna is 1-800-452-4862 x 228. Did you
try that one? The other Laguna in Ohio, where my slip comes from I think,
is 1-800-762-4354 x 207 to talk to Arthur, the Ohio clay person. Hope one
or the other of these #s is still current.

Best,

Eleanora
