glaze needed cone 8 woodfire

Hi Folks,

Does anyone out there have a dependable celedon or clear glaze for cone 8
woodfire.
The kiln I use is a pretty straight forward tunnel kiln with no baffle wall
and lots of ash and direct flame on the pots. The glaze needs to stand up
to this.......but will only be used as a liner on bottles and other fairly
closed forms.
I have some high ball clay content/fairly high iron clays that I want to
try out in some of the cooler areas of the kiln. They tend to flash best
between cones 7-9 and I need a glaze in that range just to see how these
bodies take a simple liner glaze. Usually I use no glaze at all.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Bruce: if you can get the old bluish Cornish Stone there is a glaze in
Rhodes Clay and Glazes the might be okay. Its 80% Cornish Stone.

Rhodes #20

85 Cornwall

15 Whiting

Also there is a glaze which is an Oribe which might be clear without the
added copper:

Kaname Takada Oribe

80 Custer

20 Whiting

+5 Copper Carb

this might work too:

Tony Birks shiny ash

50 ash

50 spar

lotsa luck - Hansen

Bruce

Diana Pancioli's cone 6 celadon works great in wood firing at cone 8. I
don't have the recipe at home
but if somebody hasn't found it for you before I get back to the
classroom, I'll send it to you Monday pm.

I won't be back home till April 10 or so - give me a poke then and
I'll look up some from when I was teaching at cone 8.

Bruce, I really like the Plastic Vitrox liner(much about in archives) glaz=
e
on iron containing stoneware, its gray with darker flecks/spots where iron
comes through. It matures at 6-11 in my fast fire.

PV clay %50
Ger. Borate %50

add 10% zircopax

In my kiln where there isn't alot of ash it likes to pick up and incorporat=
e
ash if in the flame path. Usually green with the oak and hickory I burn.
