"Pure and Simple" in reference to those plastic molds... How well do they
work for turning plates on a wheel? Any comments and suggestions on this
or just turning plates in general will be much appreciated..

For me they work quite well. I use a rolled out slab of clay a bit
larger than the bat, smooth it down with a sponge then trim a slice off
the edge, affix it in place and use it for throwing a foot ring.
Letting the plate dry to a leather hard+ state on the bat before
removing it seems to help prevent warping on down the line.
