I purchased Nader Khalili's book on fired ceramic houses a few years ag=

and have pored over it's pages since..It does ignite my imagination and t=

information on traditional Iranian desert architecture is amazing. Amazin=

how the architecture not only adapts to, but utilizes a desert climate to=
=3D
produce cooling, ventiliation, even ice..and beautiful, spaces..
ideas for living spaces adapted from old Iranian kilns, ice walls, etc...=
=3D
Khalilli also worked with earth bag construction. doubt if i will ever
'fire' a ceramic house , but am thinking about experimenting with exter=
=3D
ior
walls, small structures and columns.......

I read his book about a year ago and also found his ideas fascinating.
Living in Tennessee, I wonder how his ideas would work in such a humid
environment. If you do experiment. please share your results with us.

I have also been thinking about this. Khalili was a big
hero when I was in architecture school. Though
Illinois is far from the optimum climate for earthbags,
a concrete footing may raise them above the damp,
and deep eaves may protect from most direct rain.
We shall see!
