David Beaumee asked about sodium vapors corroding soft brick. It =3D
depends.
If you protect the interior kiln surface and all the furniture by a =3D
light
spraying of ITC100 that will slow down the effect of soda vapor =3D
corrosion.
I'd suggest as well introducing the soda by mixing with water and =3D
spraying
it in using a common garden sprayer rather than wrapped burritos or just
dumping. In my salt kiln I have dipped the entire soft brick (K-28) in =3D
the=3D20
ITC which gives more protection than just a surface treatment. Fuel =3D
savings
more than justify the extra cost.

Dear David Baumee,
Be aware that chemical reactions involving differing Sodium compounds are
not identical in character with respect to the refractory materials employe=
d
in Kiln construction or as protective coatings.
