Mark,
Velvacast is a water-washed, delaminated kaolin. I'm not clear on what
the process is, but the clay is really white and not plastic. It's commonly
used in casting bodies with Tile 6 or Sapphire kaolin to cut plasticity and
improve whiteness and casting properties. Several domestic throwing
porcelain compositions call for Tile 6 and Velvacast or Kaopaque
(similar product) in a ratio of 33.5:16.5 as the clay component.
