HI all,
I'm using a cone 10 clay that has a low expansion and firing in a gas kiln
without reduction. I've been using Anderson Ranch Red for iron a kaki red
glaze but the expansion is too high for my clay and I'm getting hidden
crazing that is making thermal shock and cracking problems.

Does anyone have a kaki (iron) red glaze recipe for cone 10 that is low
expansion? My usual glaze is 64 in Glazemaster. I don't have these problems
with that glaze.

I'm going to try the Bailey Red in John Britt's book since this looks like =
a
better expansion but it hasn't given me as vivid a red in the past.
Jennifer, wishing we could add a Hassle Factor Fee to each pot!

The Arts Center I work at has very good luck with Bailey's Red from Mr.
Britt's book. It looks best on a body with a good iron content. It tends to
be brown on porcelain.

Check my web site (below) for ^10 reduction glazes.
There is a Ohata Kaki listed that fit many of the different bodies my
students used.

This comes from HIgh Fire Glazes by John Britt, a book that is very worth
owning:

Bailey's Red cone 10
Custer Feldspar 47
Flint 13
Kaolin 13
Talc 10.5
Bone Ash 14
Lithium Carbonate 2.5
RIO 8

And thanks to those who shared recipes with me. I've got tests going into
next week's firing!
