digital cameras & web pages

They're great and fast for web page production (depending on the quality of
pictures you want). Kojima Takeyoshi carried one around all through the '97
IWCAT, poking it at everything and everyone. The pictures were on the IWCAT
web page that same evening! Have a look.

Once the better digital camera technology gets cheaper, I think it has a lot
of potential for craft photography. I "dream" that I would be able to
compose the shot, arrange the lighting and really be able to see what the
slide would look like before taking the picture. (slide rather than photo
because the image in the screen is formed with light on an LCD screen rather
than dies on paper). I'm still not sure that digital cameras will be able to
match a camera and film for a long while. (they gotta get lots more of them
little dots and that takes ACRES of memory)

For now, since I mostly work with slides, I think I'm going to go with the
Kodak CD (rather than a picture or slide scanner) 'cause they can afford a
higher quality slide scanner than I can. Then the Stylus Color 800 and the
high resolution paper paper for printing small runs, commercial for printing
larger and see how that goes.

Darrol,

WOW, it looks like we've finally found a NEW TOPIC to discuss!

>>Before you lock into Kodac cd photo process, you might take a look at HP's
web site. They have a new scanner on the market ( late summer) that scans
slides and prints for about $500.( US street price). <<

A quick trip to the web

Are you talking about the HP PhotoSmart Photo Scanner or the HP ScanJet
6100c. A quick check of some online price lists and it seems that the
Photosmart is about $800 (24000 Fb) and the ScanJet 6100c is about $1000
(33000 Fb). (prices in Belgium are usually higher than in the states when
the things are new, they tend to come down a bit later.)

For the added flexibility, at only $200 difference, I'd opt for the 6100c
(the Photo smart looks like it only scans small stuff). I'm going to be
carrying a slide and diskette around with me for a while till I can test
these.

>> If the resolution meet your needs, it would be economical over the long
haul. <<

I think that might be the LOOOOOOOOOOOONG haul but I need to price it.

Hi Russel,
What is the Kodak CD? How is it used? Thanks! Michelle

Michelle,

Anybody interested in Kodak CD should check out Kodak's site at:

http://www.kodak.com/

They go into great detail about the various possibilities and formats.

I don't know anything in practice (haven't tried it yet) but all the theory
I know, I got from there.

Greetings

I have been using a kodak DC120 digital camera for just a few months
now and get photographic quality prints on my epson stylus 600 using
the glossy paper. The resolution of this camera is 1280 by 960, more
than enough resolution for the web. On the web, viewing is at 72 dpi,
much less than the output of this camera.

Several photos using this camera are on the plansman artists page if
anyone is interested.

I should have given the site:
