Next week I will be in Charleston, Charlotte, Savannah, and Hilton Head. =

Any suggestions for pottery/art things to do....plus great local =3D
restaurants? Craving some southern food!

I am familiar with the Penland, Jugtown, side of the state but can't get =

there for this trip. Any other ideas appreciated. Thanks

Carol,

Charleston is one of my favorite places in the world and it has become a
foodie mecca of sorts. I used to live there, and when I go to visit, I
always eat well.

Bowen's Island Restaurant. http://www.bowensislandrestaurant.com/
Don't let the appearance of the restaurant frighten you, let's just say
it has lots of, ahem, flavor. It is an experience to dine there,
especially when they have a live band which sounds better with each beer
you drink. They are famous for their oysters, but since this is May, I
would stick to the creek shrimp (They are wonderful!) I would avoid the
crab cakes, though. Also, it's cash only and about 45 minutes from
downtown.

McCrady's http://www.mccradysrestaurant.com/ Fabulous, but a little
pricy (worth it, though!).

Magnolia's http://www.magnolias-blossom-cypress.com/ Marvelous.

Jestine's is nice for traditional southern cooking, I've always had good
food there. I don't think they have a website, but if you google them,
there are plenty of online reviews.

I used to work at Middleton Place as a historical interpreter/potter,
and I always thought their restaurant was great. Haven't been there in
awhile, though. But the site itself is worth a visit.

Have fun!
