Dave,
You said that you cannot put your existing photos in the computer without a
scanner - couldn't a person with a camera photograph the photo using the =
digital
camera? Has anyone tried this?

There are a number of photo shops that will take your negatives or
undeveloped films and transfer to a computer format. They can email them or
place them on a cd for you. Blacks offers both services (in Ontario).
