glazing big pieces/spraying glaze

updated tue 8 jun 10

I'm working on some large platter forms and don't have the glaze for
dipping. I know some who have spray booths set up and they say it works wel=
l to
spray glaze. I don't have money for that, air compressor/spray gun/booth,
so I'm wondering if there are inexpensive alternatives and if anyone has a=
ny
recommendations?

Thanks

Thanks Steve, et al,

I've had an air compressor in the past but sold it when I realized dipping
was more economical. (I think I still have an old Paasche air brush?)

I know things have improved since then, mid 80's, so I thought I would see
if there are any new gadgets that work well for limited budget/use.

take care

Jeff

I use a "jelly Jar" sprayer. Available from Minnesota Clay and other
suppliers. The compressor I use is a very small one from Sears. Looks
like a hobby compressor but does the job just fine with this sprayer.
A very cheap solution.

Try and RL Flo-Master Hand Sprayer. I think Sears has them for around 7
bucks. They come in a half gallon size and don't use a compressor but rathe=
r
a simple pump mechanism integrated into the sprayer. . I have had good luck
with using one for spraying an ash glaze. You can also spray the piece
outside with your back to the wind.

A few years ago, I did a blogpost about my low-tech spraying system.
There are a few short videos showing the procedure, as well as some
photos of the spray gun I use. It works very well for me; I LIKE SIMPLE.
