best way to refinish art room tables

The simpler the better.

I think sanding and then applying a polyurethane floor finish is quick =3D
and easy. Varnish, as in spar varnish, does not wear as well. An art =3D
reoom table gets as much abrasion as a floor--I'd use a floor =3D
finish..Several good coats.

As to covering with cloth: BIG NONO. Cloth covered boards are great if =3D
one can take them oudside and really, really hose them down--or remove =3D
the cloth and wash it. Stapled to a table the cloth would be hard to =3D
clean completely, clay dust will collect in foldovers...and I hate, =3D
hate,hate staples in the clay studio...have gotten several in the heel =3D
of my hands in wedging, nicked myself with broken off ones stuck in =3D
something else.

I did many coats of varnish =3DA0like lili but I got yardage of heavy duty =

nvas at a fabric store and cut it several " longer and wider than the table=
=3D
s (I have 3 long work tables in my studio)=3DA0and with my heavy duty stape=

r, as it was strinking, pulled tightly and stapled it on the bottom.=3DA0 -=

where it can't be seen and does not get int he way of creativity. It washes=

off really well after and between classes, dries quickly,=3DA0 and there i=

no dust or clay on the floor. Nothing to move. No boards, and such to cause=
=3D
"seams " in slabs.=3DA0=3DA0 I cut out area on the corners, underneath so =
they=3D
would be folded over neatly.=3DA0=3DA0 Every few yrs I replace the canvas =
if i=3D
t gets to worn with all the students in and out of here, and still love how=
=3D
well it wears.=3D0AI highly recommend you take the time and varnish that t=
ab=3D
