Just guessing the amount of water you use in a clay body is not the best
way to go about mixing your clay if you want a similar quality to your
clay each time you mix clay. Every clay body will take a different
amount of water, since the clays will differ in amount and the
particular clay you use. (water of plasticity of each clay)

If you want consistency in your clay batch weigh out 1000 grams of your
clay formula. Dry mix it and using a vial of water (measuring 1000 ML)
slowly add water to the mix until you get the plasticity quality to the
clay you want. If you use 300ml of water you will have added 30% water
to your clay. When you mix a large batch of clay you will know how much
water you want. If you want it wetter for storage or for making large
thrown platters add a little more water, if you want it stiffer add less
water. If you make your clay this way you will always have clay the
consistency you want it.
