------------------
hey claygang....

welllllllll....since the advent of the =23pottery channel on the =22internet
relay chat=22, me and my clay compadres have been very desirous of viewing
our fellow artisans creations...soo....after many months of discussion
about the availability, quality and price of the digital cameras , i
opted for best value as my first choice....for two weeks, i was in
possession of a casio QV-11 (=24300) ....the resolution was only 320x240,
HOWEVER, in the store i was visually deceived because of the
extraordinary quality of the tiny color liquid crystal display... (don't
be fooled by this, as the photos NEVER come out as good as they look at 1
inch square) i took the small, lightweight camera everywhere i went and
experimented....upon downloading the pix stored in the camera and
importing them into my paintshop pro program i was quite dismayed...being
rather anal retentive, i like to zoom into the scan to view clearly, even
up to each pixel...the quality was just too inferior...hence, i made a
second trip back to circuit city to upgrade to a model with better
resolution....my next =22good faith=22 purchase was the ricoh-300 (=24400)
which incorporated more professional features, including a built in
flash, (whereas the casio relied strictly on ambient lighting) higher
reso (640x480) 3 different quality modes, normal, to enhanced, to
fine....a remote control device for allowing you to situate yourself into
the picture from a distance of up to 20 feet, and what appeared to be a
much better constructed piece of equipment....for the next week i shot my
artwork, house, pets, and did a highly scrutinized comparison...better
than the casio, but still not up to what i would consider to be
par....back to the store... i must tell you that the circuit city manager
i dealt with, was actually happy to have someone conscientious enuff to
give him a point by point description of what i felt were the positive
and negative features, as opposed to being upset about all of my
returns...on the contrary, they have since dropped the casio AND the
ricoh 300 and now, i have in my possession the ricoh rdc-2...i THINK i'm
gonna keep it... :) this model is a high resolution 768x576 with 24 bit
color...it has 2 mega bytes of built in memory and also accepts pc memory
cards which allow you to store hundreds of images...also, it has a dual
lens design, which utilizes a wide-angle 35 mm and telephoto 55mm lens,
as well as macro optics for close up photography up to 1 centimeter =21
ALSO, this camera not only has still mode, but it allows continuous
shooting with 1 second intervals which records the movements of your
subject during action sequences... (much the same as a video recorder)
AND get this : THIS camera, also has sound =21 the monitor has a built in
microphone which functions as a recording device and creates =22wave=22 =
files
(sound files) right into the cameras' memory, so you can verbally
chronicle your shots.....the cam is approximately =24650, however, i was
able to talk them down to =24600 as they have a low price guarantee as it
was sold somewhere else locally for that price...the remote control also
works with this model AND it comes with the ac/dc converter which can
cost up to =24100 dollars with most other cameras...this is not the =22top =
of
the line=22 out there, but its a lot of camera for the money and i am very
satisfied...if you would like to see the samples of the pix i am
creating, why not log on to our =23pottery channel discussion group on the
starlink server of the Internet Relay Chat...we can DCC (direct client
connect) and you can see within nano moments the quality of the
pix...also, mishy lowe and kath macdonald can dcc you pix from their cams
for you to compare for yourself....we'd love to show u what we've got and
also get in on the fun and merriment that transpires moment to moment on
the =22channel=22 :) (if you need assistance in finding us, go to the
ceramics web and find the section on =22IRC=22 or write me or mishy lowe
email and we'll help you along.....sorry to be soooo long winded, but i
thought those interested would like to hear details....hoping for a
healthy and happy new year to all of you and yours...
