Hello All

i use cone 10, cone 6, and earthenware clay... i was wondering if i could mix
the three together with some grog when recycling to make a raku clay body...

Hi all,
I've done lots of stoneware work and it's been a long, long time since I've
done any raku. I'm planning on some now, and would like a couple of hints
about clay bodies. I'm after commercially prepared clay for this. My
recollection is that Soldate 60 works reasonably well, and I love throwing the
stuff, but it's tough to get a truly smooth surface on it without a thick
application of glaze (or a good coat of slip prior to bisque). The grog seems
to "surface" for some reason, particularly in high fire reduction. I'm
thinking of medium to large vase forms (12"-24" high), so I need something
with some structural integrity when green that will also handle the thermal
shock of raku in that size range. I tend to throw on the thin side. I'd love
a relatively smooth surface texture. Any thoughts will be much appreciated!!
