little tiny spheres now roughness on pot bottoms

updated fri 2 jul 10

I thought that the tiny spheres are the
Sand mixed in the clay.
When a piece is fired to a maturing temperature,
The clay shrinks. The sand changes shape from
A rough crystal shape with jagged
Edges to a round sphere and
Does not shrink...
The result is the sand protruding out to the
Surface, the clay shrinking away from the volume
Of the sand.
The surface that results is tiny spheres of roughness
On the pot bottom.

To clean, I use two pots, and rub
The bottom against each other
In a circular motion.
I use a small broken piece of
Silicon carbide shelf.
I use concrete sidewalk surfaces.

They work much better than anything else I have used. I use 50
100 200 400. 800 is pebbly and doesn't work good on flat surfaces.
Go for about 10.00 each.

Diapads are great. David Roberts introduced them to me when we were =3D
teaching
workshops in Kelowna. His polishes his naked clay pots with them. They =3D
can create=3D20
a buttery surface on naked clay pots. I use mine for cleaning up =3D
porcelain too.=3D20
They have a lot of applications.
