alumina hydrate-free kiln wash?

updated thu 22 jul 10

I just realized I'm completely out of the commercial kiln wash I
normally use, even as I need to do 2 firings this week to meet a deadline.
I don't have any alumina hydrate on hand, and would need to mail order
either it or more wash, which would take most of a week.

Can anyone recommend a simple wash for a cone 10 ox firing?
Thanks!

for years we used 50 kaolin and 50 silica for regular gas firings.
Alumina does enhance it but you can get by with the above recipe.

The traditional wash I used back in the "early days was 50/50,
silica/kaolin.
Switched to alumina because of silica issues.
