question re: "high alkaline frit"

I am doing some glaze testing and put in an order for glaze materials
recently. My supplier indicated he has "no idea"
what either "high alkaline frit" or "quartz", (specified in recipes in
the _Michael Bailey Glazes Cone 6 _book), might be.
Could anyone on the list shed some light on this?

Thanks,

A common high alkaline frit is Ferro Frit 3110.
For quartz order Flint #395

I'm surprised your supplier didn't know what to suggest as substitutes
for you.

Ferro frit 3110 is a high alkaline frit. Use silica for the quartz.
