I got to visit that museum in 2008. They have such gorgeous work
there!!! It is such an amazing museum. The ceramic work there is
amazing. The jade work is mind blowing, as is the bronze work. The
stuff there is so gorgeous. Its hard to believe that the entire
contents of the museum was carried all over China for 17 years as Chiang
Kai Shek battled it out with Mau Tse Tung. He finally took the whole
contents to Taiwan, believing that whoever had the national treasures of
China truly owned China. He is right on that score. Taiwain will not
fly directly into China because China considers it a domestic flight and
Taiwan has declared independence from China ever since Chiang Kai Shek
retreated there.

When the communists took over China in 1949, those fleeing to Taiwan took a
lot of the Imperial collection of art works with them. Obviously the
Emperors kept the best of everything for themselves. These items are on
display in the Palace Museum in Taipei. The Palace Museum does not allow
photographs.

Out of respect for the museums wishes (they do sell a two volume catalog an=
d
CD of the collection), I will not post the pictures for public view on
Picasa. The album of photos is unlisted and this is the link. Enjoy!

The museum houses incredible collections of Jade, Bronze and Metal work,
Wood Carving, Paintings, Calligraphy and Pottery. Obviously we focused on
the pottery.
