I don't have experience with any program except GlazeMaster, but it
surely runs well on my Mac. John Hesselberth programmed it using
Filemaker, which is a straightforward and user-friendly application. I
think you can download a trial copy from John's website. AND - you get
the added bonus that John and Ron Roy are regulars on Clayart and
happy to answer your questions.

Hello folks,
I have switched to an Apple and would like opinions as to what runs

Congrats on the Apple.
Last year I tested GlazeMaster and Insight on my Mac on the latest OS,
v10.4 then v10.5.
Since I was planning on using the glaze calc program for myself, then
another copy in the computer for the studio at school, I always had in my
mind the ease of use and learning curve of the students.
Both worked well with the Mac OS, but for me, GlazeMaster just seemed a bit
more intuitive. Insight has a better online data base to draw from, but one
can enter new data about materials in both programs.
In the end, knowing John & Ron steered me towards GlazeMaster.

My favorite glaze program on the Mac is Glazchem. The reason I like
it is that the program has a "Make Suggestion" button. If you are
learning about glazes the "Make Suggestion" button helps you
substitute one glaze material for another. It is a great learning and
teaching tool. It is the only program I know of that has this feature.
Glazchem is a Windows program. There are a variety of ways to run it
on a Mac. You can use Crossover software which allows you to run
Glazchem without installing Windows on your Mac. The cost of Glazchem
is 35 dollars and the cost of Crossover is 40 dollars. I have tested
Crossover with Glazchem on my Mac and it works great.
http://www.dinoclay.com/software/glzchem.html
http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/
You can try both of these programs for free for one month. Crossover
will send you a 15% off coupon near the end of the trial to entice you
to purchase it. So $69 will get you both of these programs.
Another way to run Glazchem on a Mac is to install Parallels
software. This software allows you to run Windows at the same time
you are running your Mac OS. It costs 99 dollars. You must also have
a copy of Windows to install on your Mac. I use Parallels because if
I am creating a website, it lets me have a look at using Internet
Explorer, which renders websites quite differently than Firefox,
Safari and many other web browsers.
I have a couple of youtube videos I made for Glazchem, the links are
below...

Can you use Hyperglaze to develop claybodies? What file format does it
use to save files? Can you import glaze recipes from other programs? I
have been taking a serious look at the different programs available
before I get really attached to any of them.

Johanna: projecting what cone a glaze or clay is going to be by
calculation and/or limits? Hyperglaze does that for glazes, but of
course it is kind of a general tool as exactly which materials you use
has a much or more to do with what the maturing range is than the
formula. And I don't think it does this for clay, but the software
does have an index, database, and does calculation for clays.
It is lacking a section for terra sig, underglazes, slips and engobes
however. You would have to store them in the glaze indexed area.

Hi Eric,
I use calculation to maintain clay bodies - it can be done with any =3D20
calculation program.
It's just a matter of comparing how much iron, silica and alumina to fluxes=
.
I have many examples to compare with and regular test results but any =3D20
potter could do the same with their own bodies if they have the recipe.
Let me know if you need more about this - I have to find a way of =3D20
passing on the procedure and would welcome some help.

Thank you all for your generosity and time. I have a 10 year old
version of Insight (MS Win OS) so the learning curve there would be
probably close to nil and I am also familiar with GlazeChem that I
used as well back then. I have narrowed it down based on price and
remarks you have provided.
Thank you again. Cheers,
